Checked after I brought it home....no mites. It will only explore around at nite, soak in the water in daytime.....does BRB like to soak? Anyone?

Yes Spencer, on top of being KPO [roam about] - rainbows are sensitive to dehydration and need high level of humidity. Your BRB is behaving fine.

Ideally, You can:
- Let them soak
- Spray/ Mist their enclosure regularly
- Or if you are hardworking enough, make a hideout bowl with moss for them to rest in when they feel like feeling humidity.

Please clean high humidity enclosures regularly, to prevent the growth of mold.

PS// But also make sure they have 'dry' spots in the enclosure just in case they feel like feeling dry at any time.

Thanks Peruvia for your advice, been hoping you will some along and shed some light on this since u have experience with BRB... By the way, I noticed that the humidity level in the enclosure is around 75% to 86% daily, is it still too low for a BRB?

:cool11:

Spencer, I did not keep BRBs for a long period of time. Was trading a tiny bit previously so animals came & went fast. They didn't have nice fanciful vertically-oriented enclosures but just plastic tanks stacked on top of each other. This is called.. Jack of all trades but master of none LOL.

As for humidity level, 70% to 80% will be good. Although BRBs are more resitant to scale rot, but it may still happen - so like i've emphasized, do keep the enclosure clean & humid. Not wet & soggy.

Thanks for the advice Peruvia.....I will look into that. What I did was I gave it a tall enclosure with branches, used newspaper as subtrate and a bowl for water (for drinking and soaking)...simple and clean enclosure, I clean it everytime after it does it's biz. I will look into putting in a hideout with moist moss.....maybe that will encourage it to explore more often... :cool11:

These BRBs are not that tricky to keep here actually, with our humidity level.

If you wanna use newspaper as substrate then do provide a moss hideout box for it, else it'll be soaking in the water most of the time.
Newspapers are quite bad mositure retainers.

Else, while you get moss, you can use moist paper towels at the bottom of the hideoutbox for it in the meantime and see if it takes a liking to the box.
Read: Moist, not wet.

BRB like to hide, But i wont use it for mine anymore, mine was docile before, n since i use hide box, she getting a bit aggressive everytime i remove the hideboz to handle her. so i remove n never use it anymore, She okay now, a bit bitey sometimes, but compare when i use hideboz for her before, touch oso cannot.

I'm also using newspaper for bedding.....hmm...maybe instead of a hidebox I put in a tub with moss in it for it to laze around? coz now my BRB very very docile, very confident on my hands whenever I handled it even for a juvi. Never strike at me before.....I think i dont wanna spoil that confidence with a hide box then, just make a tub of moss for it better, hehe.......thanks Ray.

   ya...mine also having a huge appetite for just a young snake compared to my young jungle carpet...just whack only

I tried putting the water bowl slightly away from the corner of my enclosure yesterday, now it's out of the water and hanging around elsewhere....maybe it's just soak itself in the water bowl and treat it like a secure spot to laze around....maybe. Looking at the temperature and humidity of it's enclosure, our climate is definitely suitable for BRBs.....just that I find it weird that it soaks in the water everytime, even just after it shed....Let's see if it still goes in there to soak after I move the bowl to another location away from the corners....hehe

Many snakes, not only BRBs, will get irritated/ hissy when their hideout cover is removed.
Kachiao their resting ma.

Try & gauge yourself which you're more comfortable with, Spencer.

Yep, mentioned it's not tricky keeping BRBs in our climate.

My previous enclosure for my BRB was also a plastic tank, kitchen rolls as floor lining, moist kitchen towels & water bowl suitable for its size. But like i mentioned, i didn't get the chance to build them a fanciful moist vertically oriented enclosure due to space constrain else would've definitely done so.

I've always have this dream of building this huge glass tank into my wall - in my bedroom, right in front of my bed where i'll keep my BRBs.. so i can watch them while i doze off :p

Oops Spencer, overlooked that yours is a juvi. Yes, juvis need higher humidity than adults.
Also for Juvis, don't give them too big enclosures. Small enclosures will make them feel more secure - don't wanna stress them out in a small snake/ big enclosure scenario.

Thanks Peruvia for your input....gotta give it more humidity now since it's still a juvi. Anyone here knows how to probe or ways to identify a juvi BRB's sex? Help needed.....thx.
